Houston opens season Feb. 18-20 in Arizona

HOUSTON – Houston Baseball will host 32 games and once again take part in the Silver Glove Series (Rice) and Don Sanders Cup (Sam Houston), highlighting the 2022 schedule, unveiled by Head Coach Todd Whitting on Wednesday.

The Cougars open their 56-game slate with three games at the MLB4 Tournament, Feb. 18-20, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Houston will face Cal, San Diego State and TCU at Salt River Fields, the Spring Training home of the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks.

"We have once again put together a schedule that allows us to build a resume for the NCAA Tournament," Whitting said. "I am very excited to open the season in Scottsdale, Arizona, in the MLB4 Collegiate Tournament. This is a great event that will feature a postseason type field to help prepare our club. Once again, The American will be extremely competitive and I feel our non-conference competition will be a great test throughout the season. "

Houston hosts Texas Southern in the home opener Feb. 25 from Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park. The opener jump starts a seven-game homestand featuring visits from UTRGV (Feb. 26-27), Lamar (March 1) and Incarnate Word (March 4-6).

Other non-conference home matchups include Southern (March 9), Columbia (March 18-20), Western Carolina (March 25-27), Prairie View (March 29), Sam Houston (April 5), UTRGV (April 12), Houston Baptist (April 19) and Rice (May 4, May 17).

Houston will face Sam Houston in the Sanders Cup finale on May 10 from Sugar Land's Constellation Field.

Houston opens American Athletic Conference play at home April 1-3 against Wichita State. The Cougars make a return trip to Wichita, Kansas, May 6-8, to cap the six-game season series. The Cougars host American rivals Tulane (April 14-16), Memphis (April 22-24) and UCF (May 13-15) and visit Cincinnati (April 8-10), USF (April 29-May 1) and East Carolina (May 19-21).

Non-conference road matchups include visits to McNeese (Feb. 22), Rice (March 8), Louisiana (March 11-13), Texas A&M (March 15), Sam Houston (March 22) and Lamar (April 26).
