Amber Gaston picked up her first weekly Conference USA honor of the season as she was named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Joining her in the weekly recognition is Rice freshman forward
Malia Fisher as she picked up C-USA Freshman of the Week honors. The 2021 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf and are voted on by the league’s women’s basketball communications directors.

Gaston went on a tear in the Owls' win on Tuesday, tallying 19 points, 13 boards and two blocks. She picked up her third double-double of the season and shot 81.8% (9-11) from the field. Gaston continues to lead the league in field goal percentage (.617), which also ranks 10th in the country. Her 13 boards matched a career high and Gaston has recorded two or more blocks in three consecutive games.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MALIA FISHER, RICE
FRESHMAN, F, 6-2, DACULA, GA.
The 6-2 freshman scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds and swiped four steals in the Owls 69-61 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in 28 minutes of action. It was her fourth double-figure scoring game of the season and third straight.
