본 연구는 글자의 내외 공간구성이 글자의 가독성과 심미성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대해서 알아보고, 손글씨를 대상으로 아름다움을 평가하는 공간구성 시스템 구축을 지향하는 것이 목적이다. 이에 글자의 형과 배경 관계를 통한 글자의 내외 공간구성의 주성분 알아보고자 2단계에 걸친 실험조사를 진행하였다. 1차 실험조사인 문장 테스트로 36개의 손글씨를 수집하고, 2차 평가실험을 통하여 글자 분류 및 형과 배경 관계를 분석하였다. 그리고 글자의 형과 배경 관계에 대한 공간구성 요인을 내부와 외부의 공간적 비율과 표준편차로 공통의 분석결과 도출하였다. 글자의 형과 배경 관계에 대한 공간구성 분석 결과, 명필의 내부 공간비율은 11.06%~18.85%, 외부 공간비율은 81.15%~88.94%로 나타났으며 내외부의 공간 표준편차는 기준치 0에서 거의 벗어나지 않은 2.7로 명필의 각 글자의 내부와 외부의 공간이 일정한 비율로 균형을 이루며 통일되어 있다고 할 수 있다. 그리고 악필의 내부 공간비율은 9.42%~28.76%, 외부 공간비율은 71.24%~90.58%로 나타났으며 내외부의 공간 표준편차는 5.97로 악필의 각 글자는 내부와 외부의 공간비율 차이가 크고, 공간의 균형이 불규칙하게 이루어져 있다. 그러므로 글자의 내부와 외부 공간의 비율이 균형을 잘 이루면 명필, 균형이 불규칙하면 악필이라는 결과를 도출하였다. 이로써 글자를 가독성과 심미성으로 평가하는 체계적인 공간구성 시스템 구축이 필요성이 판명되었고, 이것은 글자 디자인이 단순한 기호에 그치지 않고 기호성에서 벗어난 글자에 활력을 재발견하려는 움직임에 방향을 제시하는 역할을 할 것이다.
This research aims for an establishment of a space organization system which evaluates the beauty for a handwriting and researches how the inside and outside space organization of letter affects the readability and aesthetic. There was the two-step test to investigate the main factors of space organization in the relationship between the shape of the letters and the background. The 36 handwriting samples were collected from a sentence test as the first experimental investigation and through the secondary evaluation experiment were analyzed the relationship between background and letter categorization and shape. And a common analysis result about the factors of space organization about the shape of the letter and the relationship with internal and external space ratio and the standard deviation. As a result of analysis about the relations in the shape of letters and the background, the internal space ratio of excellent handwriting is 11.06%~18.85%, the external space ratio of it is 81.15%~88.94%, and the standard deviation of internal and external space is 2.7 which is close to the base value 0. It means that the internal and external space of each letter of excellent handwriting can be balanced well with a fixed rate and unified. The internal space ratio of poor handwriting is 9.42%~28.76%, the external space ratio of it is 71.24%~90.58%, and the standard deviation of internal and external space is 5.97. The letter of poor handwriting has much difference in the internal and external space ratio and the balance of space is irregular. Therefore, the result was produced that it is excellent handwriting if the internal and external space ratio are well balanced. But if not, it is poor handwriting. This research showed that the systematic space organization system is required to evaluate the letter by the readability and aesthetic. And the letter design is going to play a role to give direction to movement rediscovering vitality of letter which passes over the function as an only symbol.
