BIRMINGHAM – As the UAB men's basketball team enters its Conference USA schedule in 2022, the UAB Department of Athletics is sharing important information UAB students need to know.

The UAB men's basketball student tailgate will be held outside the main entrance of Bartow Arena between 13th Street and 14th Street. The tailgate area will open two hours prior to tipoff of each game.

Thursday, Jan. 13, will mark the first opportunity for UAB students to use the new tailgate area in front of Bartow Arena. The Blazers will return home from their first Conference USA road trip at North Texas (Jan. 6) and Rice (Jan. 8) to welcome FIU to Bartow Arena on Thursday, Jan. 13. Tipoff for next Thursday's game is set for 6:30 p.m.

The UAB men's basketball student tailgate will not only begin on Thursday, Jan. 13, but it will also be open for each home conference game for the remainder of the season. Students will have seven opportunities to enjoy the new tailgate space during the 2021-22 season.

Below are helpful tips on what UAB students will need to know about the student tailgate entering Thursday, Jan. 13's game against FIU.

1: Picking up UAB Men's Basketball Student Tailgate Passes
UAB men's basketball student tailgate passes become available at 9 a.m. on Mondays of each game week. Passes will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

To claim one of the 10 available tailgate spaces, each student organization will need to pick up one reserved tailgate pass per game at the Bartow Arena box office. Student organizations will not be granted access to their space until they have turned the pass in to a UAB Athletics representative each game day.

2: Student Organizations are Responsible for Providing All Tailgate Items
For the UAB men's basketball student tailgate, UAB Athletics will only provide a physical space in the tailgate area in front of Bartow Arena. All food, water, electronics, tables, chair, etc. are the responsibility of the student organization using the space.

3: Closing Procedures
The student tailgate will be open and available for students until the UAB men's basketball game tips off in Bartow Arena.

4: Clean Up
Clean up of the tailgate area will take place after the game and cannot begin until all fans have cleared the area.

UAB students are encouraged to treat their space, Bartow Arena, fans, employees and all other members of the UAB community with respect.

5: UAB Off to 12-3 Start
UAB has won three straight games to move up to No. 45 in the NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool) rankings. The Blazers earned a sweep to open Conference USA play this past weekend, defeating UTEP 75-62 on Thursday before dominating UTSA 87-59 on New Year's Day. UAB is a perfect 10-0 in Bartow Arena this season, outscoring opponents by 13 or more points in each victory.

Newcomer Jordan Walker leads the Blazers in scoring with 15.8 points per game and assists with 4.6 assists per game. Birmingham native Trey Jemison leads the Green and Gold with 7.7 rebounds per game and is tied with teammate KJ Buffen with three double-doubles for the season.

UAB alumnus Andy Kennedy, who earned his 300th-career victory in Saturday's 28-point win over UTSA, holds a 25-2 record in games played in Bartow Arena since returning to his alma mater in March 2020. Kennedy's team was predicted as the favorite to win the Conference USA regular season championship in October.
