NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis schedules have been officially released with the regular season starting in late January. The women's squad will start on Jan. 23 while the men's team begins the season on Jan. 25.
MEN'S SCHEDULE
The men's team will open the season against an old Southland foe when they face the Lamar Cardinals in Beaumont. A doubleheader at Alcorn State follows before the Privateers are back home for four straight including their Southland opener against Nicholls.
The rest of February sees four matches in the remaining 19 days after their bout against the Colonels. Three of those will be on the road against Jackson State, The Citadel and South Carolina State. In that stretch, New Orleans will host Rice.
March begins with three of the first four matches at home against Louisiana, Charleston and Xavier (La.). The lone road match in that stretch is against their only Power Five opponent this year in LSU.
Coach Kanga's bunch will finish the regular season with four straight road matches. Their conference slate finishes up at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UIW. Two more non-conference matches against South Alabama and Southern Miss will take place before the Southland Tournament which is scheduled to be hosted at the University Tennis Center, starting Apr. 21.
WOMEN'S SCHEDULE
Fresh off a Southland regular season title, the Privateers women's team will open the regular season on Jan. 23 a few hours east when they face South Alabama. It kicks off a stretch of five of the first seven matches taking place away from the University Tennis Center.
The women's home opener will be on Jan. 30 against Loyola (N.O.). A week later, the Privateers will host Jacksonville State on Feb. 6.
Home matches are more prevalent in the back half of the schedule, with New Orleans hosting 11 in total. Non-conference opponents the Privateers will host include North Texas, ULM, Southern Miss, South Alabama and West Alabama.
Conference play begins on Mar. 12 for the Privateers when they host McNeese. The Privateers will also host Northwestern State (Mar. 19) and Southeastern (Apr. 9) as part of their conference schedule. New Orleans will travel to UIW, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Nicholls.
A regular season finale will take place at home against Xavier (La.) on Apr. 19, two days before the scheduled start of the Southland Tournament on Apr. 21.
