They also provide flexibility to the transaxles as they shift and change as the vehicle moves over varying terrain. It is important to recognize the axle also supports the vehicles weight. Therefore, it is vital this component remain strong enough to handle the forces generated from acceleration and braking. Regardless of how careful the vehicle is driven, through normal wear and tear, any vehicle can have the axle, driveshaft and CV joints wear out, requiring replacement or maintenance.

If there are problems with turning the vehicle, it could also be an indication that something is wrong with the driveshaft. Also, CV joints are enclosed in flexible rubber boots which hold lubricating grease. When those boots tear and the grease seeps out, then CV joints can wear out more quickly. There are multiple factors which can determine the level of wear and failure rate of the axle, driveshaft, and CV joint. If the vehicle is under a heavy workload or operating in extreme environments, then it will suffer greater wear than if it is driven under normal conditions. It is important to be aware of these factors and how it impacts the intervals between necessary maintenance.
