Here are the top five stories in Houston today:

1. The world premiere of LiveWire at the Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston will happen on January 21st and January 22nd. It is a collaboration between scientists, musicians and dancers who will wear EEG skull caps (brain caps) while performing a new work created around a new string quartet by artistic director Anthony Brandt. Choreography is done by Andy and Dionne Noble. (University of Houston)

2. The Houston Rabbinical Association organized a prayer vigil Saturday evening, which was scheduled to start moments before Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker and the last two hostages at Congregation Beth Israel managed to escape. The Jewish community rallied together during the hostage situation this past weekend. (Jewish Herald-Voice)

3. Mayor Sylvester issued a statement in response to reports that Texas Secretary of State's office will distribute fewer voter registration forms to groups ahead of elections this year. Sylvester office said it is "embarrassing, unacceptable and must immediately be addressed." (City of Houston)

4. Over the course of eight hours from Monday night into early Tuesday morning, 10 people in Houston were shot, including two kids. Six of the 10 people shot were killed. Homicides were up 71% in 2021 compared to 2019 as violence continues to be an issue locally and nationally. (KHOU 11)

5. MLB Capital Partners is working with NewQuest Properties on leasing at its Houston Farmers Market redevelopment in the Heights area. The market has been in operation since 1942. (Houston Chronicle)
