Six GMC JC players sign

Feb. 4—Wednesday was not just National Signing Day for high school seniors continuing their football careers.

It was also a big day for junior college football players across the country taking the next big step to four-year institutions.

Georgia Military College head football coach Rob Manchester and his staff celebrated six signings Wednesday afternoon for guys who qualified to move on.

Offensive lineman Darren Goss and wide receiver Omarion McKelvin, a couple of South Carolina products, are headed back to the Palmetto State to play for Newberry College.

Tampa native and cornerback Ichmael Joseph signed to Rice University in Texas. He's believed to be the first GMC football player to make the jump to that school.

Defensive back Jamaric Morris from Timmonsville, S.C. signed to play for Hugh Freeze at Liberty University.

Johnson, S.C. native Robert West, another defensive back, is bound for the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

Those five players still have about another quarter to go at GMC, but defensive lineman signee Khalil White has already hit the graduation milestone. The Dublin native signed to Tuskegee University Wednesday.

During the signing ceremony, Coach Manchester mentioned seven more players who signed early so they could join their new programs this winter. They were: linebacker Thomas Douglas to Alabama A&M, running back Reginal Ellis to Western Kentucky, defensive end Carlos Fletcher to Georgia State, wide receiver-turned-quarterback Travion Houston to South Carolina State, Macon cornerback Jaquan Jackson to Southeast Missouri State, offensive lineman Daniel King to Troy State, and tight end Kendall Robinson to Allen University.

"I'm extremely proud of these guys," Manchester said of all the signees. "They came in here and handled their business."
