Senior named to Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award Watch List

HOUSTON – Houston Baseball senior first base Ryan Hernandez has been named to the 2022 Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award Watch List for the second year in a row. This year's watch list consists of 44 players representing 18 conferences around the country.

The award, created by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, is open to nominations from all Division I baseball programs in the country.  The BBCSA is based on performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity. Hernandez is one of two student-athletes from The American on the watch list.

Hernandez, a 2022 Perfect Game Preseason all-conference honoree, led the Cougars in hits (52), RBIs (37), home runs (11) and total bases (90) a season ago. The Boston native received his undergraduate degree from Houston last December and is currently pursuing a masters in global retailing.

The BBCSA started in 2017 as an honor going to the top college hitter in Texas.  In 2019, it expanded, becoming a regional award covering Division I programs in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma. The BBCSA became a national award in 2020.

The winner of the BBCSA will be announced in June and honored at a gala in the fall at the Fort Worth Club.
