SWIM: All-Academic Team Announced

DALLAS – The six-member 2022 Conference USA Swimming and Diving All-Academic team has been selected by a vote of the league’s academic advisors, highlighted by a returning selection from last year’s squad and four schools being represented. In order to qualify for nomination to the team, student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and serve as a key competitor of their respective team.
 
Paige Banton | Marshall | So. | Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada
Banton is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Dietetics and currently holds a 3.84 GPA. She was a member of the 20221 Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and Marshall University Honor Roll. Additionally, Banton received the Commissioner’s Academic Medal. She posted her season-best times in the 100 Breast (1:02.46), 200 Breast (2L13.34) and the 200 IM (2:04.64). Banton won the 100 and 200 Breast at the Liberty Invite in November, with her time in the 100 Breast marking a lifetime best and an all-time top-10 time at Marshall. A three-time C-USA Swimmer of the Week, Banton also set two new pool records against Bowling Green in the 100 Breast (1:03.27) and 200 Breast (2:15.82). She currently sits second, fifth and 11th in the 200 Breast, 100 Breast and 200 IM, respectively, in the C-USA rankings.
 
Madeline Hart | Marshall | So. | Cincinnati, Ohio
Hart is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering and currently boasts a 4.0 GPA. Like her teammate Banton, Hart was a member of the 2021 Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and Marshall University Honor Roll. She has also earned the Commissioner’s Academic Medal. Hart posted her season-best times in the 100 Fly (55.44) and 200 Fly (2:03.40). Hart won the 200 Butterfly at the Liberty Invite in November, which was also a lifetime best along with an all-time top-10 time at Marshall. She swam another season-best in the 200 Freestyle (1:51.79(against Bowling Green, notching her first win of the season. She currently sits 11th, 11th and 13th in the 100 Fly, 200 Fly and 200 Free, respectively, in the C-USA rankings.
 
Stephanie Hussey | FIU | Sr. | Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada
Hussey, a two-time C-USA Swimmer of the Week, has a 4.0 GPA as a Health Services Administration major at FIU. She helped FIU break a record in the 400 Medley Relay (3:42.66). Additionally, she broke a Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center pool record in the 400 IM (4:15.70) at the TYR Fall Classic and helped FIU shatter a BBC pool record in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:24.51). Hussey posted a dual-meet personal best in the 200 Butterfly (2:01.74) against Ava Maria and broke the FIU record in the 100 Butterfly (52.85) on day two of the Purdue Invitational. She swam an NCAA B Standard and lifetime best in the 50-yard Freestyle on day one of the Purdue Invitational (22.73). She also won the 100 Freestyle (51/58) and the 200 Butterfly (2:03.84) against Florida Gulf Coast on Nov. 6. She owns the top time in C-USA in the 200 Free and sits 2nd in the 50 Free and 100 Free.

Lamija Medosevic | FIU | Jr. | Sarajevo, Bosnia
Medosevic, who has a 3.92 GPA in Mathematical Sciences, was a key component of FIU’s fastest 800 Relay time (7:15.32) in program history at the Purdue Invitational. She was also part of the 400 Freestyle Relay team that posted a Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center record at the TYR Fall Classic (3:24.51) and contributed to a second-place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:33.19). Individually, she finished third in the 100 Freestyle B Final at the same event (52.42). In the 200 Medley Relay, Medosevic helped FIU take third (1:40.99) at the Purdue Invite. She had a pair of fifth place finishes, in the 200 Freestyle (1:56.39) against Miami and in the 100 Backstroke B Final (56.01) at the Purdue Invitational. In the 200 Freestyle Relay A Final at the Purdue Invitational, Medosevic helped the Panthers take third (1:30.28). She sits in 8th in the 50 Free and 100 Free in the C-USA rankings.

Brooke Beddingfield | North Texas | Sr. | Spring, Texas
Beddingfield is a North Texas senior who has maintained a GPA of 3.918 and is majoring in Home Furnishings Merchandising. She is a three-time recipient of a C-USA Academic Medal and a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. She competed in the 100-yd breaststroke, the 200-yd breaststroke, and the 400-yd medley relay at the C-USA Championship. She has recorded first and second-place finishes in both the 100-yd breaststroke and the 200-yd breaststroke at various meets this year.
 
Summer Sampson | Old Dominion | So. | Virginia Beach, Virginia
Sampson, who was also honored as an All-Academic selection in 2021, is a Dental Hygiene major with a 3.98 GPA. A five-time Old Dominion Dean’s List honoree and C-USA Academic Honor Roll selection, Sampson is also a two-time recipient of the Commissioner’s Academic Medal. She owns Old Dominion’s top time in the 200 Backstroke (2:02.49), 11th in C-USA, which she accomplished at the WVU Invite, and NICB (National Invitational Championship B) qualifying time.
 
Zoe Spitz | Rice | Jr. | Newport Beach, California
Spitz, a three-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient, has a 3.95 GPA and is majoring in Economics. She has been honored three times on the C-USA Academic Honor Roll, has been on Rice’s President’s Honor Roll on four occasions and has been named a Rice University Honor Athlete. In the pool, she owns the conference-leading time (1:57.14) in the 200 Backstroke, which is the fourth-fastest time in school history, and has the third-fastest time in C-USA in the 100 Backstroke (53.96), which also ranks fourth in program history.
