TEN: February 23 Athletes of the Week

DALLAS –   Middle Tennessee graduate student Chris Edge is receiving this week’s men’s tennis athlete of the week award, while Rice freshman Allison Zipoli earns the honors for the women. All weekly awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf.
 
C-USA Men’s Athlete of the Week – Chris Edge, Middle Tennessee, GR, Carlisle, Great Britain
Edge earned his first ranked win of the season over No. 84 Tad Maclean of Auburn in three sets at 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Two days later he dominated Grayson Lair of Michigan State in a two-set 6-1, 6-1 finisher. Edge’s performance helped Middle Tennessee defeat No. 24 Auburn in exciting fashion 4-2 at home, followed by a win at Michigan State on the road (5-2). The grad student has been a force at No. 3, moving to 11-2 overall in singles and 12-1 in doubles.
 
C-USA Women’s Athlete of the Week – Allison Zipoli, Rice, FR, Winnetka, Illinois
Zipoli improved her singles record to 6-0 in the dual season with a pair of straight set wins, including the clincher against LSU which allowed the Owls to snap a five-match losing streak to the Tigers with a 4-0 victory.  At the No. 3 spot, the freshman defeated Mae McCutcheon, Texas State (6-0, 6-0), followed by the win over LSU’s Nina Geissler (6-3, 6-3).
