Cougars open home slate against Texas Southern, UTRGV

HOUSTON – Houston Baseball plays its first of 32 contests from Sanders Field at Schroeder Park when it faces Texas Southern at 4 p.m. Friday. The Cougars round out the weekend against UTRGV at 4 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday.  
 
Friday will mark the first "713 Night" at the ballpark where fans can buy $7 tickets at the box office and take advantage of $7.13 Tex-Mex Nachos at the concession stand. In conjunction with its partnership with Raising Cane's, a Houston win on Saturday means fans in attendance walk away with a buy one, get one free box combo offer.
 
Adult single-game tickets are available for as low as $10 while kids (under 12) are admitted for as low as $5. To purchase seats, click here. For Sunday's contest, fans attending Houston Men's Basketball's game against SMU can show their ticket at the gate for free admission.
 
The weekend will also feature a pair of games between Texas Southern and UTRGV. The clubs will face off at noon on both Friday and Saturday. Tickets for Houston's 4 p.m. matchups each day can be used to gain admittance to the earlier contest.

NEED TO KNOW
Houston (1-3) is 32-0 all-time against Texas Southern (6-0) while head coach Todd Whitting is 10-0. The Cougars are 26-22-1 all-time against UTRGV (3-0). The Cougars swept Texas Southern on Opening Weekend a season ago. UTRGV outlasted Houston, 6-5, in its last visit to Schroeder Park (Feb. 25, 2020).
 
Houston picked up its first victory on Tuesday, defeating McNeese, 3-2, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Cougars made the most of their two hits and scored the winning run in the sixth on an RBI-fielder's choice from shortstop Ian McMillan.
 
Several Houston student-athletes were recognized as part of 2022 American Athletic Conference previews including Ian McMillan who was named The American's "Best Defensive Infielder" by Baseball America and Jaycob Deese who earned the publication's "Best Fastball" honor.
 
UP NEXT
The Cougars continue their seven-game homestand at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Lamar. Fans attending Houston Men's Basketball's matchup against Cincinnati can show their ticket and get in free to the game.
 
As part of "2-Dollar Tuesday" fans can buy $2 tickets at the box office on game day as well as capitalize on $2 nachos at the concession stand. Tuesday's giveaway will be Houston-themed Mardi Gras beads.
