Lady Eagles welcome Rice for Senior Day

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's basketball team will recognize four seniors as they entertain the Rice Owls on Saturday at noon at Reed Green Coliseum. Daishai Almond, Fess Hawkins, Kelsey Jones and Destiny Smith will all be recognized following the game.

Scouting the Owls

• Head Coach Lindsay Edmonds is in her 1st season leading the Owls and has posted a 10- 12 (5-9 C-USA) mark so far this season.
• Sophomore starting point guard Destiny Jackson is averaging 9.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in 33.0 minutes per contest while shooting 49.2 percent from the field in her third season with the Owls.
• The Owls return one starter, Katelyn Crosthwait, and six letterwinners from last year's squad. Crosthwait averaged 8.2 points and 5.3 rebounds last season while leading the team with 43 made three-pointers.
• The Owls garnered 94 points in the C-USA and were slotted eighth out of the 14 teams.

A Southern Miss Win Would…
• Keep USM in the two-top of the west division.
• Give USM their second-straight win vs. Rice.
• Finish the home slate at 11-3.

Southern Miss – Rice Series
• Rice has won three of the last four with Southern Miss breaking a three-game skid in January.
• The two teams didn't meet a season ago, after having their series canceled due to COVID.
• Southern Miss rolled to their largest win in Conference USA play in Houston, defeating Rice, 78-55.

• Behind the hot play of junior guard Domonique Davis, and the best team shooting performance of the season, Southern Miss women's basketball raced past Rice, 78-55, on Saturday afternoon at Tudor Fieldhouse.
• Davis went for a career-high 30 points in the win on a 9-of-16 effort from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. She also swiped three steals, dished out three assists and grabbed a pair of rebounds.
• As a team, the Lady Eagles shot 54.7 percent from the floor for their best shooting clip of the season.
