Houston runs win streak to five games

HOUSTON – Houston sophomore Skyler Trevino provided the game-winning, RBI-triple with two outs in the eighth inning, unlocking a five-all tie while helping lift the Cougars to a 6-5 victory over Lamar on Tuesday night from Sanders Field at Schroeder Park.

Trevino's game-winner capped a night in which Houston (5-3) dug itself out of an early three-run deficit and a late one-run deficit. The victory was the fifth straight for the Cougars and second multi-run comeback in the last three contests.

Redshirt sophomore Zach Arnold tied things at five on a seventh-inning, RBI-single, scoring a hustling Brandon Uhse from first base. Uhse helped Houston scratch back from an early 3-0 deficit with a two-run home run in the third inning.

Houston pitching worked around 10 Lamar (4-4) hits while permitting just one walk. Derrick Cherry (1-1) earned the relief victory behind a perfect eighth inning. Ben Sears locked down his first save, stranding the tying run at first in the ninth.

Redshirt sophomore Anthony Tulimero continued his hot stretch, upping his average to a team-best .303 with a 2-for-4 performance. The catcher also cut down his seventh runner on the bases in eight total attempts this season.

Reliever Cameron Prayer worked around back-to-back singles to lead off the seventh courtesy of a strikeout, fielder's choice and glove snag on a sharp liner destined for center field with two runners aboard.
