AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas Track and Field team, returning with three U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Associations All-Region selections, open their season at the Trinity Invitational on Friday.

The Tornados are coming off of their best season under fifth-year head coach Megan Wageenaar, taking home five American Southwest Conference individual championships between the men's and women's teams, including two field events won by Ravon Davis-Conway.

The program will look to build on that success, returning with Davis-Conway, Rick Platas, Brett Jackson, Bianca Bagwell and Bayli Luke, who had successful campaigns last season.

In the women's track and field ASC Preseason Poll, CTX was voted to finish fifth in the league, accumulating 32 points. Luke and Bagwell were selected as Athletes to Watch in the conference.

Meanwhile, on the men's side, the Tornados were tabbed to finish fourth in the conference's Preseason Poll, collecting 39 points. Tevin Smith along with Platas were named ASC Athletes to Watch.

Luke is heading into her final season with CTX, looking to claim her first ASC individual championship after being a runner-up in the 400m finals in the last two conference championships. Last year, Luke broke the school record in the event, crossing the finish line in a time of 56.40 at the ASC Championships and earning All-Conference Second Team honors.

The mark was good enough to earn her USTFCCCA All-Region honors and become the program's first women's Tornado to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where she placed 10th overall. For her athletic and academic success, Luke collected the Elite 90 award as well as being named the ASC Track and Field Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.

Bagwell, meanwhile, returns for her sophomore year after a successful freshman campaign where she collected her first ASC individual championship, winning the 800m event. She was the top long-distance runner for CTX, having the best time in both the 800m and 1,500m, both set at the conference meet. For her performance, Bagwell earned her first ASC All-Conference First Team accolade.

On the men's side, Davis-Conway will look to add to his prestigious career with the Tornados after going home with two conference individual championships, winning in the long jump and triple jump. He is the first CTX athlete to win two individual events at the conference meet in the same year since Gabriel Spivey accomplished the feat in 2019.

At the HSU Invitational last season, Davis-Conway become the program's triple jump record holder after reaching a distance of 14.37 meters. Davis went on to claim ASC First Team honors as well as be a USTFCCCA All-Region selection in the triple jump.

Platas was one of the top performers for the program last season, setting the 10,000m run program record at the Trinity Invitational last season, clocking in a time of 33:47.54. At the conference meet, Platas ran a time of 34:29.48 in the same event, besting the program's top mark in the event at the conference meet.

Jackson and Smith were both ASC All-Conference selections as well, both being named to the ASC Second Team for their performances.

Jackson ran a career-best time of 15.23 in the 110m hurdles at the conference meet, finishing runner-up in the event and being named to the USTFCCCA All-Region. Smith, meanwhile, had the top-five marks in the 400m for the program, saving his best for last with a time of 48.44 in the event at the ASC Championships, placing second overall.
