Houston rides five-game win streak into Friday

HOUSTON – Houston Baseball wraps its seven-game homestand when the Cougars face Incarnate Word this weekend from Sanders Field at Schroeder Park. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Sunday's finale is set for 1 p.m.
 
Houston (5-3) is riding a five-game win streak into Friday's opener. The win streak is the longest in The American. Incarnate Word (3-2) has won two straight and three of its last four. The Cardinals raced past Abilene Christian, 12-5, on Wednesday.

Bring your four-legged friends as dog bowls will be given away all weekend as part of "Bark in the Park" Weekend. Dogs must be accompanied on a leash and remain on the grass berm. Dogs are not permitted in seating areas.

Friday is "713 Night" at the ballpark where fans can buy $7 tickets at the box office and take advantage of $7.13 Tex-Mex Nachos at the concession stand. A Houston win on Saturday means fans in attendance walk away with a buy one, get one free box combo offer.
 
Come out for Kids Day and Family Day at the ballpark on Sundays. Kids (12 and under) get in free with their youth jersey and may run the bases postgame.
 
NEED TO KNOW
Houston and UIW have met four times previously with the Cougars holding a 3-1 advantage. UIW head coach Ryan Shotzberger spent eight seasons at Houston (2012-19) including two stints as assistant coach and three years as director of player development. Houston pitcher Bryson Walker spent the 2021 season at UIW, making three starts and seven appearances.

Houston has put on a show defensively, ranking 13th nationally in fielding percentage (.986). The Cougars have played error-free baseball in five of eight games. Behind the plate, Anthony Tulimero has thrown out an AAC-best eight runners.
 
UP NEXT
The Cougars face cross-town rival Rice in the first of three games as part of the Silver Glove Series. The contest is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday across town at Reckling Park. Houston will be back home at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday against Southern.
