Two-out hits the difference in Houston's 10-4 win

HOUSTON – Houston Baseball scored nine of its 10 runs with two outs, erasing an early two-run deficit to secure a 10-4 victory and series win against Incarnate Word in Sunday afternoon's finale from Sanders Field at Schroeder Park.

The victory was Houston's seventh in its last eight games, improving the Cougars to 7-4 on the season. Cougar starter Nathan Medrano (1-0) worked around six Incarnate Word (4-4) hits, allowing four runs in 7.0 innings while striking out four.

One day after collecting his first collegiate home run, designated hitter Cameron Nickens deposited his second over the wall in left, extending the lead to 9-4 in the fifth. Three innings later, he added his third in two days.

Houston first baseman Ryan Hernandez crushed a three-run home run, his first of the season, to put the Cougars ahead 3-2 in the third. The Cougars put up a four-spot in the fourth, highlighted by a go-ahead RBI-triple from Malachi Lott.

Hernandez, who totaled five RBIs, one off his career high, tacked on a two-run single in the fourth. Catcher Anthony Tulimero continued his torrid start to the season, registering his fifth multi-hit performance in the last seven games.

Houston scored 23 runs in the three-game set, batting .538 (7-for-13) with two outs and .417 (5-for-12) with runners in the finale. On the mound, right-hander Ben Sears locked up the series win, tossing 2.0 scoreless with a strikeout.

The Cougars tagged Cardinal starter Isaiah Zavala for seven runs on as many hits in 3.2 innings. Houston pitching limited the Cardinals offense to .167 (2-for-12) with two outs and .200 (3-for-15) with runners aboard.
