HUNTINGTON, W.Va.
– The Marshall women's basketball team has earned the East Division's fifth seed in next week's Conference USA Tournament, which will be held in Frisco, Texas in the Ford Center at The Star.

The Thundering Herd (15-12, 10-8 C-USA) will face Rice, the West Division's fourth seed, on Wednesday at noon ET/11 a.m. CT in second round action. The game will be carried on ESPN+.

The Owls (13-12, 8-9) have won six of their last seven games, with the lone setback coming in a 90-80 overtime loss at Louisiana Tech (19-10, 11-7), who earned the West Division's top seed.

Marshall and Rice met earlier this season, with the Thundering Herd taking a 66-53 verdict on January 15 in Houston. In that game, the Owls led by five through three quarters, but MU routed the home team 21-3 in the final 10 minutes.

Aaliyah Dunham, Kennedi Colclough and Savannah Wheeler combined for 46 points for Marshall, while Destiny Jackson (10 points) was the only Owl to get to double-digits.

The last time the Thundering Herd and Owls were to square off in the conference tournament was March 12, 2020 in the quarterfinal round. However, that game was canceled during pregame warmups with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The winner of Wednesday's game plays in Thursday's quarterfinal at noon ET/11 a.m. CT against Charlotte (19-9, 15-3), the East Division's No. 1 seed. That game will also be carried on ESPN+.
