WBB: March 7 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Following the final regular season weekend of C-USA play, LA Tech’s Anna Larr Roberson, was named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the first time this season, the league announced on Monday. Additionally, Rice’s Maya Bokunewicz was named the C-USA Freshman of the Week, also her first recognition of the season. The 2021-22 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf and are voted on by the league’s women’s basketball communications directors.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ANNA LARR ROBERSON, LOUISIANA TECH
SOPHOMORE, F, 6-3, RUSTON, LA.
Roberson led the Lady Techsters to two C-USA wins this week clinching the West Division title behind a 31-point, 8-rebound effort on Wednesday at ODU. She went 10-of-13 from the field and was a perfect 10-of-10 from the FT line, as she continues to lead the league in FT percentage. The sophomore followed that up with 19 points and six rebounds Saturday against UAB to average 25 points and seven rebounds on 67 percent shooting, with three blocks and two steals during the two-game slate.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MAYA BOKUNEWICZ, RICE
RS-FRESHMAN, G, 6-0, STATE COLLEGE, PA.
Bokunewicz had a breakout weekend and played a significant role in helping the Owls secure a pair of C-USA victories. The freshman averaged 20 points and eight rebounds while playing 35 minutes per contest, shooting 51.9 percent from the field, including a 45.0 clip from three-point territory. Bokunewicz capped the weekend with the best game of her career, scoring a game-high 26 points and collecting 10 rebounds for the first double-double of her career. She knocked down a Rice single-game record-tying seven three-pointers on 12 attempts, the most by a C-USA player this season during league play, Addtionally, she began the week with 14 points and six rebounds in Rice's victory over UTEP.
