Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader from Rice, 2-1, 6-3, Takes First Three Games of Series

HOUSTON, Texas – Harvard University baseball swept a doubleheader from Rice University, 2-1 and 6-3, on Saturday afternoon at Reckling Park, taking the first three games of the four-game series.
 
The Crimson (4-2) scored a pair of runs in the sixth on its way to the victory in game one before taking a 6-0 lead on the host Owls (2-9) through the top of the fifth en route to the game two win.
 
Sophomore Chris Snopek went 4-for-6 with three RBIs and a double between the two games while sophomore Spencer Williams finished 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored over the course of the twin bill. First-year George Cooper hit his first collegiate homer in game two.
 
Junior left-handed pitcher Tim Williamson earned the win in game one, throwing 6.0 innings and allowing one run with seven strikeouts prior to first-year Chris Clark coming on for the save. First-year designated hitter Sawyer Feller and sophomore outfielder Ben Rounds each posted an RBI in the opener.
 
Senior right-hander Jaren Zinn gained the win in game two, hurling 4.2 innings and permitting two runs on three hits with six strikeouts. Snopek tallied three RBIs and two hits in the victory while Williams went 3-for-3 in the contest.
 
In game one, the Crimson took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth behind a sacrifice fly from Feller and an RBI single into left field from Rounds. The Owls got one back in the last of the sixth before the Crimson closed out the win.
 
In game two, Cooper opened the game with a leadoff home run before the Crimson added two more runs in the top of the third on a two-run double from Snopek. Harvard plated three runs in the top of the fifth before the Owls scored twice in the fifth and once in the seventh before the visitors completed the sweep.
