Shriners Children's College Classic names All-Tournament Team

Tournament field for 2023 also officially announced

HOUSTON, TX — The 22nd annual Shriners Children’s College Classic concluded over the weekend at Minute Maid Park with UCLA being named the Tournament Champions after going 2-1 with impressive wins over Oklahoma and the No. 1ranked Texas. The Bruins were matched by Tennessee, Texas and Baylor at 2-1, but earned the tiebreaker with a tournament-best plus-15 run differential. LSU finished 1-2 over the weekend, while Oklahoma went 0-3.

Minute Maid Park hosted a total attendance of 53,879 over the weekend, which marks the highest weekend attendance in the 22-year history of the College Classic. The previous record was 53,565, which was set in 2017. This weekend saw over 12,000 fans in attendance each day, including strong crowds on Friday (12,577), Saturday (24,787) and Sunday (16,515). Saturday’s crowd marked the second largest single-day attendance in tournament history and ranks as the seventh-largest attendance figure for a single day baseball event in NCAA regular season history.

Additionally, the tournament announced the 2022 Shriners Children’s College Classic All-Tournament Team, which was highlighted by the Classic’s Most Outstanding Player LHP Tyler Thomas from Baylor. Thomas dazzled in his Friday start against UCLA, tossing 8.2 innings, allowing just four hits and one run, while posting 10 strikeouts in Baylor’s 2-1 win.

On Sunday afternoon, Shriners Children’s announced the field for the 2023 Shriners Children’s College Classic, which will feature top programs in Louisville, Michigan, Rice, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and TCU. The 23rd annual tournament will feature nine games at Minute Maid Park from March 3-5, 2023.
