Houston visits Ragin' Cajuns for first weekend set since 2002

LAFAYETTE, La. – Houston Baseball opens a four-game road trip with three matchups against Louisiana beginning at 3 p.m. Friday from M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park in Lafayette, La. 
 
Saturday's middle game gets underway at 2 p.m. and Sunday's finale starts at 1 o'clock. All three matchups can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on The Varsity Network.
 
Houston (9-4), winners in nine of its last 10, is making its first trip to "The Tigue" since March 8-10, 2002. The then-No. 10 Cougars, who reached the Super Regionals that season, swept that series as part of 10 straight wins. The Cougars lead the all-time series 39-14-1.
 
Louisiana (6-6) is coming off an extended break after its midweek matchups against Louisiana Tech and New Orleans were rained out. The Ragin' Cajuns have stolen 29 bases as a team to rank 15th nationally.

After stealing just one base in its first four games, the Cougars have swiped 18 bases in their last nine games including 15 in their last six contests.
 
Houston ranks second in The American in triples (5) and stolen bases (19). The Cougars are third in walks (58), fielding percentage (.980), WHIP (1.32) and walks allowed per nine innings (3.42).
 
Anthony Tulimero is riding a 13-game reached base streak (seven-game hit streak snapped Saturday). Zach Arnold is riding an 11-game reached base streak. Samuel Tormos is on a nine-game reached base streak. Brandon Uhse is on a nine-game hit streak.
 
In its pair of midweek wins this week, Houston used a strong effort in the eighth inning to jump ahead. On Tuesday at Rice, with the game tied at six in the eighth, Uhse shot a two-out, two-run double into right field to highlight a 10-7 victory. On Wednesday against Southern, trailing 4-3 in the eighth, Tulimero lined a bases-loaded single into right field, clearing the bases to take a 6-4 lead.
 
UP NEXT
Houston wraps its four-game road trip at Texas A&M on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The matchup can be seen on SEC Network+ and heard on The Varsity Network. The Cougars return home Friday to open a three-game set against Columbia.
