Cougar standout named to Buster Posey Watch List

HOUSTON – Houston Baseball standout Anthony Tulimero is among two American Athletic Conference catchers, and 72 players nationally, to appear on the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List, unveiled this week.
 
Previously known as the Johnny Bench Award, the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award honors the nation's top Division I catcher as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors. To see the full list, click here.
 
Tulimero leads The American with nine runners caught stealing. At the plate, the redshirt sophomore is batting .396 and is tied for second in the league with 21 hits. Heading into the weekend, the Temecula, California, native has registered three consecutive games with three hits. He has reached base safely in all 13 games as a Cougar.
 
Semifinalists will be announced May 19. Ballots will be sent to the national voting committee in May with the three finalists unveiled June 7. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita, Kansas, and the winner will be announced on June 29.
 
UP NEXT
Houston opens a four-game road trip against Louisiana at 3 p.m. Friday from M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park. Saturday's first pitch is set for 2 p.m. while Sunday's finale gets underway at 1 o'clock. All three games can be seen on ESPN+ and can be heard on The Varsity Network.
