Houston offense delivers in 8-4 victory

LAFAYETTE, La. – Houston Baseball received consistent production throughout its order, defeating Louisiana, 8-4 to even the three-game series on Saturday afternoon from M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.

The Cougars (10-5) put up six runs between the fourth and sixth innings highlighted by a four-run fifth inning. Houston batted around in the frame, tagging a pair of Cajun pitchers for five hits including RBI-singles from Brandon Uhse, Zach Arnold and Anthony Tulimero

Louisiana (7-7) received 3.0 innings from starter Bo Bonds who closed out the Ragin' Cajuns 9-5 win in the opener earlier in the day. The right-hander did not allow an earned run. Louisiana's bullpen permitted seven runs on 10 hits.

Making up Houston's top-three in the order, Uhse, Arnold and Alex Lopez combined to go 4-for-13 with four runs and five RBIs. Tulimero, batting in the five-hole, has registered multiple hits in five consecutive games and has reached base in all 15 games as a Cougar.

Houston tied the game at two-all in the fourth inning as Lopez deposited his first homer as a Cougar over the wall in right field. The sophomore has scored a run in four consecutive games.

Cougar starter Nathan Medrano (2-0) scattered seven hits and allowed four runs and two walks while striking out four across 5.2 innings. The right-hander has tossed 5.0-plus innings in three of his four starts and allowed four runs or fewer in all four starts.

Houston reliever Ben Sears locked up his third save, tossing 3.1 scoreless frames while holding the Cajuns to two hits alongside two strikeouts. The junior has not allowed an earned run in his first 15.0 innings this season.
