ITF: Six C-USA Athletes Earn NCAA Indoor First Team All-American Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Conference USA student-athletes represented well in their events at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend held at the Birmingham CrossPlex, Friday and Saturday in Alabama. Six student-athletes were named First Team All-Americans.

Southern Miss’ Corvell Todd, the C-USA 2022 Champion in the High Jump, continued his stellar season as he cleared a personal best, Southern Miss and C-USA record height of 7-6 (2.29m) to finish second overall. Todd was the only jumper in the competition to clear the first five heights on his first attempt, surpassing the previous school record and Conference USA record on his fourth jump at 7'5.0". Todd also cleared the record setting 7-6 height on his first attempt.

Fellow high jumper from Middle Tennessee Omamuyowi Erhire also earned All-American status as he cleared 7-2.5 (2.20m) to finish seventh.

In the women’s high jump, WKU’s Katie Isenbarger tied her personal best with a clearance of 6-0 (1.82) to finish tied for fifth, becoming the first female First-Team All-American from WKU since 2014 (Jessica Ramsey, shot put). She cleared 5-8, 5-10 and 6-0 on her first pass each time and ties the WKU record she set earlier in the season.  Rice’s Josie Taylor also earned First Team All-American honors in the event as she cleared 5-10 to finish tied for eighth.

Also on the field side of things, UTSA’s Jemuel Miller recorded a personal best in the triple jump with his mark of 53-0.75 (16.17m) which was good enough for sixth place and First Team All-American recognition. He broke his own UTSA school record and made the leap on his sixth and final attempt.

In running events, Middle Tennessee’s Eusila Chepkemei, the C-USA mile Champion, finished sixth in the women’s mile with a time of 4:37.21 for First Team All-American honors. Chepkemei also owns the fifth-best time in the nation in the event with her 4:32.39, which she set at the Boston Last Chance Meet the week before.

The outdoor season officially beings later this month with the C-USA Championships taking place May 12-15 in San Antonio, Texas.
