URI Women’s Team To Host Quinnipiac Friday In First Round of WNIT

FORT COLLINS, CO – The 2022 Postseason WNIT launches with a flourish this week, with times, dates and locations now secured for the 32 Round 1 games on the schedule. Rhode Island will face Quinnipiac on Friday, March 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the Ryan Center.
This marks the 24th edition of the Postseason WNIT, powered by Triple Crown Sports and first held in 1998. The traditional 64-team field makes its return this season; COVID-19 concerns led to the cancellation of the event in 2020, and the field was limited to 32 teams in 2021.

All games are played at individual schools; the 2022 Postseason WNIT has 32 teams that won at least 20 games this season. The Mid-American Conference has the most teams in this year’s field with five; the American, Conference USA and Mountain West each have four teams. There are three teams each from the Atlantic 10, Missouri Valley, Southeastern and West Coast; two teams will be suiting up from the American East, Atlantic Sun, Big East, Big Ten, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ohio Valley, Pac-12, Patriot, Summit and Western Athletic. There’s one team each hailing from the Atlantic Coast, Big Sky, Big South, Ivy, Mid-Eastern, Metro Atlantic, Northeast, Southern, Southland and Sun Belt.
In the 2021 Postseason WNIT championship game, Rice defeated Ole Miss, 71-58, in Memphis. Other recent title winners include Arizona (2019), Indiana (2018) and Michigan in 2017, a game against Georgia Tech that went into triple overtime.
