Mark your calendar! The air is warm and after two years of cancellations due to COVID-19, the seventh annual Kite Festival at Hermann Park Conservancy is back. Located in the heart of Houston, Hermann Park is the perfect place to feel like a kid again. Take a tumble down the iconic Miller Hill and watch thousands of Houstonians fly their kites above Jones Reflection Pool on Sunday, March 27.

Festival-goers can expect an array of activities, crafts, food and more than 20 local vendors to purchase goods from. Don’t sweat if you don’t own a kite or know the first thing about flying one. There will be kites for sale and free lessons on-site.

In addition to all of the kite-flying fun, kid-friendly activities will include an inflatable soccer field, a bubble party and face painting. Martial arts, tai chi and yoga will also be on the schedule. Bring your own food and have a picnic on the hill, or stop by one of the many food trucks.

The performance stage at Miller Outdoor Theatre will also be in full swing starting at 10:15 a.m., with DJ Mav kicking off the festivities, and will continue until the end of the festival at 5 p.m. Other performances include the High Voltage Rock Camp, the Rice University Marching Band, Mariachi Los Caimanes from the University of Houston-Downtown and Queen Legacy, a Queen tribute band.

“It is such a fun day for people from all over to come out and enjoy being together in Hermann Park, while also learning a bit more about the conservancy, what we have planned for the park, and all about the other wonderful community events we host every year,” Doreen Stoller, president of Hermann Park Conservancy, said in a statement.

The Kite Festival will take place on Sunday, March 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hermann Park Conservancy. To see the performance schedule, map and a full list of vendors, visit their website.
