SR 42/US 23/Moreland Ave Resurfacing Project Set to Begin in April with Overnight Lane Closures
ATLANTA – Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) contractors are scheduled to begin a resurfacing project on SR 54/US 23/Moreland Avenue from Key Street to Wade Street in Fulton County in early April. Within the project limit’s estimated four miles, this resurfacing project will repair and improve the condition of the deteriorating roadway and produce a smoother ride for drivers.
Weather and on-site conditions permitting, this project is tentatively scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 3. Message boards have already been installed on-site to alert the public of the upcoming project work.
Contractors will install overnight lane closures (9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. the following mornings) to minimize traffic impacts. Most of the closures will be single-lane closures, but when needed, the center turn lane may also be closed simultaneously. Lane closures help ensure safety for workers and drivers as crews perform milling, inlay and resurfacing activities which require heavy equipment.
This $2.8 million project is scheduled for completion in late summer 2022.
Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through the work zone during the project work hours. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
