Promotion: "Turn Back the Clock " STARTERS
Texas Tech kicks off a six-game homestand, starting Tuesday with California Baptist from the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). It's Tech's last test before opening Big 12 conference play this upcoming weekend against No. 2 Texas. Texas Tech's homestand also marks the end of a seven-game stretch of road games in a nine-game period. The Red Raiders' finished 5-2 between games played against No. 23 Mississippi State in Biloxi, at Rice and at Iowa. Back at home, Tech owns one of the top home-field advantages in the nation, and will look to continue its home-field dominance where it has won over 75% of its home games since Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park opened in 2012. The Red Raiders own a 246-71 mark since 2012, and are 10-0 at home in 2022.

Chris Slyvester will call the game while Mike Gustafson will provide color commentary from inside Rip Griffin Park as coverage will be provided via Big 12 Now on ESPN+. The broadcast can be accessed from any desktop or laptop computer, any personal cellular device and television streaming services using the ESPN app. Registration for the subscription service can be found at ESPNPlus.com.

Texas Tech Sports Network will also broadcast the game over 46 affiliates throughout the state of Texas and New Mexico as Jamie Lent will have the call alongside analyst, Texas Tech baseball alum, Cam Warren.

PROJECTED PITCHING MATCHUPS

STREAKING
With runs comes hits, and a constant as of late has been junior designated hitter Ty Coleman. Coleman owns a streak of 12-straight games with a hit, that includes as of recent memory going 1-for-1 in a pinch-hit appearance on March 16 in the eighth inning to lead off the frame, which sparked the Red Raiders' seven-run outpouring that helped them come from behind and win in Tech's last home game. Over the weekend, Coleman had a double in Tech's win on Saturday, and a solo home run on Sunday - which was one of four hits Tech managed in the loss.

PARKER KELLY HAS ARRIVED
Always the sure-handed third baseman known for his defense, Parker Kelly has emerged as a power hitter in his fifth year on the team. Entering this season, the senior owned two career home runs and 17 RBI, and was a career .211 hitter in 247 career at-bats (2018-2021). Kelly leads Texas Tech in 2022 with six home runs (three grand slams) and is also the team leader in RBI with 26. Even more impressive, he hit three Grand Slams in the span of five days (March 5-9), and hit six home runs within a span of six games. In the Merrimack game alone on March 5, he hit three home runs in a single game, two bring Grand Slams, for a nine-RBI single game performance.

  • Brandon Birdsell's 15 strikeouts against Rice on March 12 were the most by a Red Raider since Bobby Doran's 16 versus Missouri on May 1, 2010.
