MONTGOMERY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team finished in 16
thplace at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Tuesday at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Course.
The Vaqueros posted their best round of the tournament with a final round 304 as they finished with a three-round score of 940.
Sophomore
Leonardo Novella paced the way for the Vaqueros with a three-round score of 234 after posting a final round 77 as he finished tied for 58
th.
Sophomore
Taj Sutherland finished tied for 70
th with a three-round score of 238 after posting his best round of the tournament with a final round 76. Sophomore
Sebastian Lundberg posted his best round of the tournament with a final round 77 as he finished tied for 83
rd with a three-round score of 244.
Sophomore
Rhaasrikanesh Kanavathi finished tied for 87
th with a three-round total of 246 after posting a final round 87 and freshman
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque posted the team's best round of the day with a two-over par 74 as he finished in 94
th.
Florida Atlantic went on to win the team title with a three-round score of 876 after posting a final round 289. Florida Atlantic's Alex Maquire and New Mexico State's Garrison Smith tied for the individual lead with a three-round score of 213 as Maguire won the playoff to take home the medalist trophy.
The Vaqueros will be back in action from April 29-May 1 when they compete at the Western Athletic Conference Championships at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.
