Here are the top five stories today in Irving:

  1. A security guard was injured in an early morning shooting at a strip club near Love Field on Sunday morning, police say. The security guard escorted a group of unidentified individuals out of XTC Cabaret around 6 a.m., when they shot at him and fled the scene. An investigation is underway. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  2. Multiple teens were arrested after a fight at Parks Mall in Arlington, according to police. Arlington PD turned to Twitter on Sunday morning to clarify that no shots were fired during the incident, although there were "rumors flying" about gunfire. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)
  3. Irving Fire Department responded to multiple potential natural gas leaks on April 14. At this time, the agency believes the calls were due to excessive levels of mercaptan, an additive that makes natural gas smell like sulfur to help identify leaks since natural gas is inherently odorless by itself. The agency reminds folks to continue being vigilant in reporting potential leaks. (Irving Weekly)
  4. Take a gander at the new mural at the Farmers Branch Library over at NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth. The three-story work was painted on 7,000 books. Artist Mike Stilkey was made famous by his 5,000-book mural at Houston's Rice University back in 2007.
  5. Bluebonnets signal spring in these parts. Find out where to get the best views of Texas' iconic flower in the area over at Visit Irving Blog.
