HOUSTON – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team took a break from American Southwest Conference play, traveling to play Division I opponent Rice but falling 6-1 Monday.
Joshua Bode picked up the lone win for the Tornados, marking his fifth straight win at line one singles as he took down Rice's Sarkar 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 with a tiebreaker in the third set.
The Tornados were swept in doubles play despite a battle from Bode and
Adrian Munguia at line on, falling 6-2.
Munguia kept it close at line two singles, winning four games in the first set, but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-1.
Esteban Arredondo won three games in the first set, but he was unable to pick up the win, suffering a 6-3, 6-2 defeat at line three.
At line four,
Evan Pena Jr. fell 6-2, 6-0, and
Andres Padilla won three games in set one but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-0.
Jorge Garcia ended the day at line six singles, suffering a 6-2, 6-0 defeat.
The Tornados will return to ASC play Thursday, hosting Hardin-Simmons at 9 a.m. at Southwestern in Georgetown, Texas.
