Family members and friends are remembering the life of U.S. ambassador and former senator Bob Krueger.

The New Braunfels native passed away over the weekend at the age of 86.

“My dad was so gregarious and approachable and genuinely curious in other people,” said Mariana Krueger, the eldest daughter of Bob Krueger.

Bob Krueger never met a stranger.

“So even people who just met him once they say, ‘Oh I remember your dad and I remember the stories that he told me and he had such an impact on me,’" Mariana said.

Krueger began making an impact serving as a professor at a number of universities, including the University of Texas at Austin, Duke University, Rice University, Oxford and Texas State University.

“He was always teaching us, one way or another” Mariana said.

He then entered the realm of public service. Kreuger, a democrat, served in the U.S. House in the 1970s before serving as an ambassador into the 1990s.

“Doing right for other people really applying the Golden Rule in everything that he did,” Mariana said.

Those kinds of principles and values came from his upbringing in New Braunfels.

“Even though I was four years older we still did a lot of things together,” said Arlene Krueger Seales, Bob’s older sister. “He always saw the good in everybody.”

All the credentials and accolades aside, Krueger would always say his greatest roles were being a husband, a father and grandfather.

“I want to say that we love him so much and I am using present tense intentionally,” Mariana said. “Because the love doesn't go away. I can't imagine anyone better. I really can't and I know that I am and my siblings are the people we are today because of him, because of his example."

Funeral services for Krueger will be held this Thursday at 2pm at Oakwood Church in New Braunfels.

The services are open to the public.

The family says they're also planning to set up a scholarship which will be awarded to graduating high school students interested in public service.
