WTEN: 2022 All-Conference Team Announced

DALLAS – Old Dominion’s Yuliia Starodubtseva was named the 2022 Conference USA Women’s Tennis Player of the Year for the second-straight year and after leading the No. 31 Monarchs to their second-straight Conference USA Title. The senior is currently ranked No. 20 and No. 8 in doubles along with Tatsiana Sasnouskaya. The pair was also voted the Outstanding Doubles Team of the Championship.
 
Lucia Quiterio of Charlotte was named Newcomer of the Year. The junior recorded a 17-5 spring record playing at the third and fourth spots primarily. Quiterio, put together a seven-match win streak including a No. 2 position victory over Coastal Carolina, mid-season. She finished the season by winning all four conference tournament matches in two sets.
 
Charlotte coach Anthony Davison earned Coach of the Year award after leading the No. 52 49ers to this year’s conference championship match and a 19-7 overall record. The 19-win season is tied for the fourth-most in a single season in program history.
 
Rounding out the superlative awards is Freshman of the Year, which is going to Yasmine Kabbaj of FIU. The freshman posted an overall record of 19-5 in singles play, including a 13-1 mark while playing in the No. 1 singles position.  Kabbaj won each of her final 13 singles matches and 10 of those 13 victories came in straight sets.  She defeated University of Florida’s Marlee Zein, currently ranked No. 80, in straight sets and No. 124, UCF’s Evgeniya Levashova, also in straight sets.

Old Dominion and Charlotte led C-USA with six all-conference selections, with nine schools being represented overall. All awards are voted on by the league’s 14 head coaches.
