Capping Sanders Cup in Sugar Land

SUGAR LAND, Texas – The University of Houston closes its annual three-game Don Sanders Cup series when it faces Sam Houston at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday from Constellation Field.

The Cougars, who claimed the Sanders Cup with an 8-6 win against the Bearkats on April 5, have won six of their last seven games including taking 2 of 3 at Wichita State over the weekend. Houston's 32-16 overall record is its best through 48 games since matching the feat in 2015.

Sam Houston (27-19) has won four consecutive games after finishing the month of April at 8-9. The Bearkats are hitting .317 as a team, a mark that ranks sixth nationally, and have produced double-digit runs in three straight games. The Bearkats are 12th nationally in hits (510).

Houston ranks sixth nationally and second in The American with a .983 fielding percentage. The Cougars have not committed an error in the last eight games. Houston's last error came in the seventh inning against Memphis on April 24.
 
Houston clinched the Sanders Cup with a 9-1 win in Huntsville (March 22) and 8-6 win in Houston (April 5). The Cougars and Bearkats each own a pair of Sanders Cup titles since the event began in 2017 with Houston claiming the last two (2019, 2022).

Houston is 10-2 in midweek matchups following its 8-2 victory against Rice last Wednesday. The victory secured Houston's sixth Silver Glove Series and second in the last three chances against Rice.

UP NEXT
Houston returns to Sanders Field at Schroeder Park for its final home weekend of the season. The Cougars, who are currently second in The American standings and 2.0 games back of East Carolina, will face third-place UCF.
 
Friday's opener is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday's middle game is at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday's finale is at noon. Houston will recognize its 2002 NCAA Super Regional team at Saturday's contest before paying tribute to its senior class on Sunday.
 
Friday is "713 Night" at the ballpark where fans can buy $7 tickets at the box office and take advantage of $7.13 Tex-Mex Nachos at the concession stand.
