Houston first baseman named American Player of Week

HOUSTON – University of Houston senior Ryan Hernandez has been named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week after helping the Cougars put together three victories, including a weekend series win at Wichita State, the league office announced Monday.
 
Hernandez batted .467 (7 for 15) with six RBIs and two home runs in four games. The Boston, Mass., native logged at least one RBI, run and hit in all four games. The first baseman went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs on Wednesday, helping Houston to the Silver Glove Series title with an 8-2 victory against Rice.
 
With his performance, Hernandez upped his average to .302 with a team-best 42 RBIs while matching junior Brandon Uhse with a team-high eight home runs. His 21 RBIs in American games are also a team high.
