BASE: WKU's Meyer, Charlotte's Sims Take Home C-USA POTW Honors

DALLAS – Following standout performances this past week, WKU OF Matthew Meyer and Charlotte RHP Hale Sims brought home C-USA baseball’s weekly awards, the league announced on Monday. Meyer was a huge part of WKU’s weekend series win over UAB, hitting .545, with two home runs and driving in five. Sims was strong on Friday night for the 49ers, tossing seven scoreless innings in a series-opening win on over Rice. The 2022 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf.
 
HITTER OF THE WEEK
MATTHEW MEYER, WKU
JUNIOR, OF, WESTFIELD, IND.
Meyer led the Hilltoppers at the plate during their series win against UAB over the weekend, posting a .545 batting average (6-for-11), a 1.273 slugging percentage over three games, racking up six hits - a pair of doubles and two home runs - to go along with five RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base. Of the Hilltoppers’ 13 runs on the weekend, Meyer scored or knocked in eight of them.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
HALE SIMS, CHARLOTTE
JUNIOR, RHP, PADUCAH, KY.
Sims was originally slated to be an opener on Friday, but turned in a quality start after 7.0 scoreless innings of work. The Paducah, Kentucky, native matched his career-high with eight strikeouts (to only two walks), scattered four hits and only allowed three runners into scoring position in the win. This marked the second combined shutout he's been a part of this season.
