Cougars close home American Athletic Conference play against Knights

HOUSTON – The University of Houston wraps up its home slate of American Athletic Conference play when it hosts UCF in a three-game series beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Saturday's middle game is at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday's Senior Day finale begins at noon.
 
Fans attending this weekend's series should expect additional traffic congestion surrounding Sanders Field at Schroeder Park due to University of Houston on-campus commencement ceremonies all three days. For additional information, click here.
 
Houston (33-16, 12-6 American) enters Week 7 of American play in sole possession of second place and just 2.0 games back of league-leader ECU with six contests remaining.
 
UCF (28-20, 11-7 American) sits just one game back of the Cougars. The Cougars (.289) and Knights (.284) are the league's top-two offensive clubs. UCF's 3.92 ERA leads The American while the Cougars rank second in fielding percentage (.982).

Houston and UCF have met 58 times with Houston holding a 30-28 lead (series dates to 1990). Houston is 17-10 all-time against UCF at home. Thursday marks the first meeting between the teams in Houston since May 5-6, 2018.

Houston ranks sixth nationally and second in The American with a .982 fielding percentage. The single-season program record for fielding percentage is .977 set in 2000. The Cougars' current .982 fielding percentage ranks tied for third in American Conference history.
 
On Saturday, Houston will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its 2002 NCAA Super Regional team. The '02 Cougars matched a program record with 48 victories. The club won the NCAA Mesa Regional and was crowned Conference USA Champions at 22-7.
