OTF: Multis Highlight Day One of C-USA Championships

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Day one of the 2022 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships wrapped up with four heptathlon and five decathlon events completed at the Park West Athletics Complex. The four-day meet, hosted by UTSA, will conclude Sunday.

The 2021 C-USA  decathlon champion Jack Turner of UTSA currently is atop the leaderboard with 4,075 points. The reigning champ took the three field events of the day, first winning the long jump with a 7.34m (24-1”) leap. He then recorded a shot put mark of 13.42m (44-0.25) and eventually was able to take the individual lead after clearing 2.02m (6-7.50) in the high jump to move into first. Turner’s teammate Joel McFarlane is in second at 4,003 points while Rice freshman Grant Levesque, the 2022 C-USA Indoor Heptathlon Champion, is in third with 3,895 points.
 
Following the first four of seven events in the heptathlon, Fabiola Declet of FIU has the lead with 3,077 points. The junior led the field in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.41, tossed a leading mark of 11.53 in the shot put and led the field in the 200m at 25.17. Louisiana Tech’s Johannon Murray is second with 3026 points, and Marshall’s Krista Perry is in third at 2,885. The field of eight will return to the track on Friday at 4:30 p.m. to crown this year’s champion.
 
Friday kicks off with the first field event of the meet, men’s hammer, at 2 p.m. CT with the women’s following shortly after. The multi-events also conclude, and the first running event, the men’s 10,000 meter, starts at 8 p.m. followed by the women’s 10k.
 
Field events resume Saturday with the men’s discus at 1 p.m. CT. Running prelims kick off with the men’s 1,500 meter at 5:30 p.m. The day concludes with the men’s and women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase, with the men starting at 9 p.m.
 
Sunday’s final day of action begins at 1 p.m. with the field events as the men’s shot put with start things off. The running finals will start at 6 p.m. with the men’s 4x100m relay. An awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the 4x400m relay and the field events wrapping up.
