HOUSTON – UCF Baseball pushed across two runs in the ninth inning against University of Houston junior closer Ben Sears as the Knights upended the Cougars to even the series with a 6-5 comeback victory on Saturday night from Sanders Field at Schroeder Park.

The Knights (29-21, 12-8 American) took a one-run lead on a pair of hits including a go-ahead RBI-single from redshirt junior Tom Josten in the ninth. The result came one day after Sears (6-3) locked up his American-best 12th save.

Houston (34-17, 13-7 American) scored three times in the fifth to erase a one-run deficit. The Cougars produced four hits in the frame including a two-out RBI-single from freshman Cameron Nickens. The left fielder, who raised his average to .308, drove in three runs on the day.

Cougar junior starter Kyle LaCalameto allowed one run, coming in the first inning, on three hits alongside five walks and six strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Redshirt junior Maddux Miller allowed one run in 2.0 innings. Cameron Prayer tossed 0.2 scoreless frames.

UCF redshirt sophomore reliever Kyle Krmaer (1-3) earned the victory, tossing 2.0 scoreless. The Knights were led offensively by Josten who reached base three times and drove in three runs.

Houston saw its season-long stretch of eight consecutive games with double-digit hits come to an end. The Cougars finished with eight hits including two from redshirt sophomore Zach Arnold who also scored twice.
