Memphis football gets first 2023 commitment in Horn Lake CB Trevor Walton

Memphis football got its first commitment for its 2023 class on Friday in cornerback Trevor Walton from Horn Lake.

Walton, who is currently unranked by 247Sports, made his announcement via Twitter. The 6-foot-1, 170 pound senior-to-be was offered by Memphis on April 11 and had offers from Kentucky and Alabama State among others.

"I chose Memphis because of all of the love I get from the staff and how I can see me as a disciplined cornerback in the DB room," Walton told The Commercial Appeal.

Walton added that growing up 20 minutes away from Memphis made it feel like it was home. He was convinced to commit to the Tigers after speaking with sophomore defensive back Greg Rubin and freshman Trevor Hardy, who sold him on the program as much as the coaches.

The Tigers staff hit the recruiting trail since spring practice ended but they've also been more active in the transfer portal. They've added five players including receiver Andrew Mason (Rice) and defensive linemen CorMontae Hamilton (Whitehaven/Ohio State) and Kamren Washington (Sam Houston State).

Memphis also added defensive back Davion Ross (Eastern Kentucky) and long snapper Colby Cox from Mississippi State.
