MIAMI (May 21, 2022) – To conclude the 2022 season, the FIU baseball team fell to the Rice Owls by a score of 3-1.
In his final start in the Blue and Gold,
Christian Santana was saddled with the defeat after allowing two runs over two innings with four strikeouts. Fellow senior,
Jan Figueroa tossed four shutdown innings in relief to keep FIU within striking distance. Angel Tiburico pitched the final two innings of the year and allowed one run.
Drake Batcho also turned in a scoreless inning in relief.
The Panther quartet of
Alec Sanchez,
Jayden Melendez,
Robert Sotolongo and Bryan Lorgia each recorded a base hit in the season finale.
Jorge Ramirez worked a walk in the second inning to push his on-base streak to 10 games.
Rice jumped out to an early 2-0 with a two-run home run the top of first.
The Owls held the 2-0 advantage until the sixth inning with Sotolongo scored on a RBI groundout off the bat of
Noel Perez to make 2-1.
Rice tacked on an insurance run the eighth for the 3-1 final.
