TEN: C-USA Represented By Two In NCAA Singles Opening Round

CHAMPAIGN, ILL. – The NCAA DI Singles and Doubles Championships began on Monday afternoon at Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex, hosted by University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and will run through Sunday, May 28. Old Dominion’s Yuliia Starodubtseva and Francois Le Tallec opened NCAA singles action. Starodubtseva fell to Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Oklahoma State (2-6, 4-6) in the first round of play. Le Tallec also dropped his match to Arthur Fery of Stanford (4-6, 2-6).

Starodubtseva completes her senior season at 30-6 in singles play, earning Conference USA Player of the Year and finished No. 18 nationally. She’ll take on doubles play tomorrow with partner Tatsiana Sasnouskaya against Ana Paula Melilo and Kit Giluhur of North Florida. Le Tallec finished his season with a 15-8 record and prior to today’s match was ranked 54th.
 
Conference USA will also be represented in the doubles’ brackets beginning on Tuesday. On the men’s side, Middle Tennessee’s Francisco Rocha and Oskar Brostrom Poulson will face Carl Emil Overbeck and Yuta Kikuchi of California. Joining the Old Dominion pair on the women’s side is Rice’s Diae El Jardi and Maria Budin who will face Cameron Morra and Carson Tanguilig of North Carolina.
