Application

Electric strikes are a cost effective alternative for applications where electrified hardware is not practical. What differentiates electric strikes from traditional lock strikes is the movable strike. The striker interacts with the latchbolt of the lock or panic hardware, either securing it to lock the door or allowing the latchbolt to be pulled through the striker for access.

Lock

There are a wide variety of locks on the market today, requiring many different types of electric strikes. To determine which strike is compatible with the manufacturer and model number of your lock, you must consider several factors. The electric strike must accommodate both the size and position of the latchbolt, deadbolt and, in some circumstances, the deadbolt.

Type of Doors

HES electric strikes replace the standard mechanical strike of a lock or exit device. On single doors, the electric strike is mounted on the frame. For a pair of doors, the electric strike can be mounted either on the inactive leaf or on the jamb. When selecting an electric strike for such applications, it is important to ensure that the width and thickness of the inactive sash jamb can accommodate the preparation of the strike. Electric strikes are generally not used on pairs of doors where both leaves are active.

Strike plates can also meet the demand for securing all-glass openings that have surface mounted vertically positioned exit bars that include an incorporated latch at the top of the vertical rod. Special strike plates that mount seamlessly into the door frame header are designed to work with a concealed vertical rod latch at the top of the door.

Electric strikes can be installed in a wide range of swing door applications. Many different styles of electric strikes cater to all vertical markets including high security, retail and residential. Cylindrical locks, mortise locks and deadbolts generally require an electric strike recessed into the frame, which most often requires cutting the frame or the second door of a double door assembly.
