DENTON, Texas - Zion Hill earned one of Conference USA's Spring Spirit of Service Awards, and Lyric Choice received one of the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarships, the conference office announced.

Hill is a senior majoring in Hospitality Management with a minor in Geography and holds a 3.4 GPA for the Mean Green. He is a three-time UNT Dean's List Honoree and has been recognized by the President's List along with earning a spot on the Spring C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. He is the school record holder in the javelin and a two-time C-USA Champion along with earning C-USA First Team All-Conference honors. Hill serves as the co-chair of the North Texas SAAC and is a C-USA SAAC representative. He's been key in every SAAC-led service and engagement event this year including the Fall Food Drive. The senior also volunteers his time with community food drives sponsored by First Denton and with the local non-profit thrift store that serves Woman to Woman Pregnancy Resource Center.

The Spirit of Service Award honors student-athletes with significant community service endeavors, good academic standing and participation in their sport. It is presented three times throughout the season, with Tuesday's honorees representing baseball, men's and women's golf, outdoor track and field, softball, men's and women's tennis and beach volleyball. Recipients are nominated by their institutions.

Choice is a four-time All-CUSA student-athlete on the Mean Green's track and field team, competing in the hurdles and relays, while earning a degree in Public Administration and is currently working on completing her Master of Science Public Administration degree. The track standout has been a C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient and during her track career, landed a paid internship with the City of DeSoto's Public Administration Office. Along with being a first-generation college graduate, Choice is also the first in her extended family to continue on to a post graduate program. She plans to return to the City of DeSoto as a Marketing and Media Specialist following her Master's graduation in the Fall of 2022.

The Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship is named after Dr. Jim Castañeda, who served Rice for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed in 2008. Every season, C-USA grants the $4,000 scholarship to distinguished graduates selected by the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Conference USA Board of Directors.
