Gorillaz is one of the most extraordinary bands of all time. Damon Albarn’s songwriting talent and charisma and Jamie Hewlett’s vision and art style created this visual band with four fictional members: 2D, Noodle, Murdoc and Russell.

On the 19th of August, the band performed at All Points East in London, and our photographer Alina was lucky enough to capture Gorillaz in action. Damon, together with Mike Smith, Karl Vanden Bossche, Jesse Hackett, Jeff Wootton, Seye Adelekan, Remi Kabaka Jr. and Femi Koleoso, created a truly magical sound.

A carousel of high-profile special guests kept the crowd guessing. Among their number, the likes of De La Soul, Popcaan, The Clash’s Paul Simonon, Rowetta and Shaun Ryder were all featured. The band even took the opportunity to premiere the futuristic disco of brand new track ‘New Gold’, featuring Tame Impala, with Kevin Parker making a surprise appearance with Bootie Brown.

The energy and the whole performance of Gorillaz was absolutely immaculate. From unexpected special guests to new songs, unique visuals are specific to the band’s image, sound, atmosphere and wholesome moments and comments.

This quote from Lady Gaga comes to mind to describe this incredible gig: “Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular, never the same, unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference…”. And we’re more than ready to hear more from them soon.
